TexTalk 04: Sustainability in Practice

On April 15, 2025, the fourth edition of the professional event TexTalk took place at the premises of Prádelna a čistírna Jihlava (Laundry and Dry Cleaning Jihlava). The event brought together representatives from industrial laundries, dry cleaners, fashion brands, designers, and design students. This year’s edition once again focused on sustainability in the textile industry, with an even stronger emphasis on practical solutions and sharing experiences across the sector. The event is organised annually by the Czech Association for Textile Care.

The programme traditionally opened with a fashion show by students of SUPŠ Jihlava-Helenín, who presented original collections made from recycled materials. Their work demonstrated how sustainability principles can be naturally integrated into fashion design. “We truly value this type of collaboration – it brings real-world experience into education and gives students the opportunity to present their work and engage with industry professionals,” said Miloslava Svobodová, head of the Department of Fashion and Accessories Design.

Filip Trnka, a second-year student and emerging designer, added: “This was my second time attending, and I found the organisation and programme even more refined than last year. I especially appreciated the panel discussion – the diversity of participants brought inspiring insights from both the industry and the design world.”

The discussion segment featured representatives from CHRISTEYNS, Dibella and ALSICO Czechia, who shared specific challenges and strategies for increasing sustainability in textile care – from material production to the operation of small-scale laundries and cleaners. The event also welcomed Luděk Šmehlík, Creative Director of SA|KO Studio and stylist for Czech Television.

The afternoon included a guided tour of the Laundry and Dry Cleaning Jihlava facility, which allowed participants to explore the technologies and operational principles focused on efficiency and environmental responsibility. “Visitors are often surprised by how technically demanding a professional laundry operation is – in terms of both energy use and processing complexity. That’s why we value the opportunity to show it in practice,” said Martina Prošková, the facility’s director.

The event was moderated by Veronika Kadeřábková, actress and public speaking coach, who is personally committed to sustainable fashion. “TexTalk is valuable because it brings together professionals from different areas of the textile sector. As a result, discussions address very concrete topics, supported by data, facts, and the perspectives of young fashion creators. The next step is to make sure these insights reach a broader audience,” she concluded.

TexTalk 2025 confirmed the growing interest – from both professionals and students – in practical sustainability solutions. The event provided a space for knowledge exchange and highlighted the importance of linking education with real-world practice in the textile care industry.

We are already looking forward to the next edition!
